Invest Wisely: Treat Emotional Energy like Financial Assets

I believe we have 5 finite resources we are managing.

  1. Money
  2. Time
  3. Emotional Energy
  4. Mental Space
  5. Talents

What if we treated our emotional energy budget like our financial budget?

Imagine that you have $86,400 in your bank account and someone stole $10 from it. Would you be so angry that you would throw away the other $86,390 in hopes of getting back at the other person? Or would you just move forward and figure out how to invest that $86,390 to keep it growing and flourishing?

We all have 86,400 seconds in a day thanks to the great equalizer called time. Don’t let someone else’s 10 seconds of problems or negativity ruin the other 83,390 seconds of your day. Why would we let them?

One of my internal mantra’s to myself has been, “I will not let another person’s weakness dictate how I am going to live. They already took enough, I cannot afford to give them any more. Let me go build with what I have.”

I have a very deep commitment to myself that I will not invest any of my resources (time, energy, money, mental space, or talents) to that which I have no ability to change or influence.

It’s worth mentioning, we cannot change the past. We cannot make the milk go back into the bottle so to speak.

When something negative happens; sometimes I cannot apply my win-win mindset. I chose to problem solve with a least amount loss mind-set. If I always stay in the win-win mindset then I will struggle with letting go of my losses which often is the pivotal/best thing to do.
